It becomes critical here in Puna to increase the publics' awareness of this especially concerning the rat lung disease. Science is also finding more problems with processed foods and large scale meat production that may become a serious health issue one day. Hawaii has unique problems with invasive species that can be spread by farmers and the consumers. I am never more aware of my impact on this environment than when a new critter stings me in the garden. The cleansing of the fresh lava is a small consolation when the revegitating will include these same critters. The island is evolving and so is the farming.
